Inquiry

As you all know, we have been taking our larger themed topics and dividing them into topics of interest for more personalized learning. We started with winter animals and chose Polar Bears in January. This month we are working on transportation. Students from both K4 classrooms participated in songs on transportation found on the web. Then students engaged in working in small inquiry circles with our K4 learning pod. Students were given books, pictures, and small play vehicles to explore their interests. After spending some time exploring, as a class we graphed our favorites. We narrowed the search down to two topics of interest; space shuttles and trains. Each student then picked their favorite. After assigning inquiry circles we sent home a letter so that we could gain more information from our small community. This sheet shared our questions and allowed parents to participate in the inquiry process. I think the students are really gaining a lot from the experience!
